Chi-Town: Veni, Vidi, Vici!

As you know, I recently graduated with my Master’s in Business Administration, and just this past weekend I ventured to Iowa for my graduation ceremony!  For those who don’t know me, I took my classes online, which is why I needed to travel so far for my graduation.  Since there is pretty much nothing going on in Clinton, Iowa, we decided to spend most of our trip in Chicago!  I am so in love with this city and I cannot wait to go back!  Of course while I was there I tried to check out as many small bars as I could so I would have something to share with you!  Chicago is known for the amazing deep dish pizza, and since beer pairs almost perfectly with pizza there was plenty of that as well!  Here are some pictures from some of the places.
View from our hotel room in Downtown Chicago!  We stayed at the ACME Hotel, it was amazing!
Our first Chicago beer was 312 from Goose Island.  We liked the tap handle!
An amazing picture taken by my best friend Patty (also below).  Make sure to check out her website!!
Our first official Chicago Style deep dish pizza at Giordano's!  Sooooo yummy!
The wait at Giordano's was over an hour so we made a pit stop for some cocktails at Jake Melnick's Corner Tap.  They had some great beers, but the infusion tubes caught my interest the most!
Some of the amazing architecture found on our river tour!  You haven't seen tall building's until you've been to Chicago!
The start of our night out on the town in Chicago!  We ventured out of downtown to hit some of the local spots!
Adrian was our tour guide for the night!  I can't wait for you to come out to San Diego so I can show you some hot spots in my neighborhood!
Our First stopo was The Map Room!  I decided to try to Smuttynose Wheat Wine and was in love!
Some of the tap handles at Owen and Engine.  I can't believe these bartenders actually convinced me to enjoy blue cheese!!  Check out this week's HOPpenin' fact for more!
They had a few old school tap handles which pull the beer up making it more smooth.  Less bubbles makes my tummy happy!  The smoother beer reminded me of a lot of the brews at On The Tracks Brewery!
We had to hit up Christina's Place for $2 Guinness!  This is where things started to get fuzzy!!  Luckily the next stop included some delicious late night grub!
The last stop of the night was at Kuma's Corner.  This place is a MUST if you enjoy a huge juicy burger!  I ordered "Our Famous Kuma Burger" served on a pretzel roll and house made chips on the side! Seriously, this burger was HEAVENLY!
One last stop before heading back home!  Millenium Park!  This place was beautiful.  I could spend hours here, and I would love to go on a run through this park on a brisk fall morning!  I didn't get to spend enough time here.  We just HAD to stop at Cloud Gate, aka The Bean!  I will be back soon Chicago!
I had to post one picture of my school!  This is Patty and I after our Master's Hooding ceremony, and a quick stop at the bookstore of course!

HOPpenin' Fact of the Week:
If you're looking for an amazing beer and cheese pairing, try blue cheese with a strong IPA.  I have been a blue cheese hater my whole life, and honestly not the biggest fan of IPA's ... BUT the two paired together is pretty amazing!  It's like the cheese and beer are fighting to win over my taste buds!  Trust me, it's worth trying!

Meanwhile at the brewery:
A new stage has been built for live music on Saturdays!  Come check out the band, drink some ice cold beers, and enjoy a great evening!  Also, try our newest beer, Wee- Hoppie!  With a name like that, you've got to try a pint!!

Shout Outs!!!
*BIG thank you to Kazmier at the brewery for hooking us up with a VIP tour guide for our night out in Chicago!  Our trip wouldn't have been as amazing without Adrian's guidance!
**Patty Robertson, thank you for being an amazing partner in crime and taking this great adventure with me!  Your pictures are always amazing!  WE DID IT!!

Cheers!
Tess
